Kathak is an ancient Indian Classical Dance form

I hold a 'Visharadh' equivalent to a B.A in this beautiful performing art

from Gandherve Mahavidyalaya estd. 1901

I'm a disciple of Shri Gandham Prakash

I now teach this form here in Dublin, Ireland to preserve and nurture my heritage with the larger Indian and south asian diaspora community here

In 2025, the first four students have appeared for their Kathak exam remotely from Ireland. This is a first for the Indo-Irish Community and I'm humbled to have facilitated this through my teaching at my school ' Kathak Nritya Dublin'

These are the moments that make a small shop owner very, very happy. 🥹🤍

The Nritya Set — size 18 ghungroos with 100 bells per foot, paired with our quilted KND ghungroo pouch — started as something I carefully sourced, sampled and imagined becoming part of someone’s Kathak practice.

And now… they’re actually out there. In dance bags. In classes. In riyaaz.

There’s something deeply satisfying about building a small creative business around an art form you love. Making art a sustainable economic activity is hard — especially when you’re building independently and trying to grow something slowly and meaningfully.

So these little moments mean more than a product review.

They mean a student choosing to invest in her practice. A dancer finding things that make her want to practise. And a teacher getting to watch that love for the art form grow.

That’s the bit that makes me happiest. 🤍

Riyaaz means practice — but why is it so important in Kathak? 👀

Think about the gym: we don’t go there to learn something new every time. We go back, repeat, train, and slowly make the same movements feel effortless.

A little chat about muscle memory, technique, finesse and why the magic really happens through repetition.

✨ FINALIST | Dance Awards Ireland® 2026 ✨

Another little milestone worth celebrating. 🧡

Kathak Nritya Dublin has been selected as a Finalist for Dance Studio/School of the Year – Leinster at the Dance Awards Ireland® 2026.

After being recognised in four categories last year — and winning Cultural Performance of the Year with rāas Kathak Company — it means so much to see the work of the school recognised again this year.

For me, Kathak Nritya Dublin has always been about more than teaching dance. Since 2023, we’ve been building a structured pathway for Kathak education in Ireland, growing a community of students across beginner to advanced levels, creating opportunities to learn, perform and progress, and most importantly, creating a space where people can connect with a tradition that may feel like home — even when home is far away. 🤍

And there’s more to celebrate this year, with rāas Kathak Company also named a Finalist in Traditional or Cultural Dance Contribution.

Two different facets of the same journey — building Kathak through education and through performance.

Grateful to the Dance Awards Ireland team for recognising the work, and incredibly grateful to every student, family, dancer, musician, collaborator and supporter who has helped us build this community. 🧡

There are some things you don’t realise are a privilege until much later.

When I was a child learning Kathak, my Guruji would play the Tabla himself. I learnt for over 20 years, almost every single day, with live Tabla—and at the time, I never stopped to think about how incredibly fortunate I was to have that experience.

So watching my Level 1 students experience that connection here in Ireland—even if only once in a while—brings me so much joy. 🥹💛

Here they are doing a Natwari Toda in Taal Tritaal. And that moment when everyone lands their Sam together? That feeling. ✨

It’s more than keeping time. They’re beginning to listen, respond and feel the taal—and slowly understanding why live accompaniment is such an integral part of Kathak.
