A wave of nostalgia mixed with utter delight hits you when you first watch Riverdale. The month old show finds its roots in the much loved Archie comic book series. It is everything an Archie fan would imagine the Riverdale world to be. All the characters from the comics are portrayed in the show. From Pop’s Chocklit shop and Big Ethel to even Josie and the Pussycats, everything’s in there!
The contrast between the comic book and the show becomes apparent in the story. While the world, the characters and their relationships are the same, the plot is new. There is a twist in the tale and it’s delightful to watch how the writers make these age-old, well-defined characters with their existing histories react to this new development.
The look and feel of the show is quite stylized. The colours and textures of the backgrounds contrast more than usual from the extra bright characters. From distinctive mascara, popping make up and vivid hair styles it has an air of surrealism
The cast is compelling and does a sincere job in playing these characters. The plot is riveting and engages the viewer from the first episode. It’s an indulging mix of romance, suspense, thrill and drama.
The show is just five episodes old and currently airing. If you’re looking to take a step back into your teenage years and enjoy a high school drama with a dash of suspense thriller, then this is the show for you.
